Cap Jaune in Vincendo is an iconic cliff of Réunion’s “Sud Sauvage” (Wild South), located at the foot of Piton Vincendo in the commune of Saint-Joseph. The cliff stands about 50 metres high and is made of hyaloclastite, a volcanic rock formed when lava flows enter the ocean. Its vivid yellow colour comes from the oxidation of iron in the volcanic rock, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding dark basalt and the deep blue of the sea.
The site is accessible via a coastal path starting from the Vincendo marine area, a spot popular with both fishermen and picnickers. The walk is easy, taking about one hour round trip, and passes through lush coastal vegetation typical of Réunion Island. Along the way, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean, the cliffs, and local wildlife. At sunset, the cliff’s ochre tones intensify, offering a truly spectacular natural display.
In summary, Cap Jaune is a remarkable geological curiosity, perfect for a leisurely walk or a family picnic, combining postcard-worthy scenery with an immersion in the wild beauty of Réunion Island.

Swimming in the open sea is dangerous due to strong currents, but a natural rock pool provides a safe place to swim. The site also offers beautiful views of the ocean and Cap Petite-Île, and it is sometimes possible to spot sea turtles or whales, depending on the season. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and the beach is especially lively on weekends, making it a perfect place to enjoy nature and leisure.
